Fairtrade in Eastleigh Borough Campaign – Fairtrade status awarded to Eastleigh Borough

We are delighted to announce that The Fairtrade Foundation has recognised the achievements of the Fairtrade in Eastleigh Borough Campaign, with the full support of Eastleigh Borough Council, and have awarded Fairtrade status to Eastleigh Borough for its commitment to Fairtrade principles.

Eastleigh is now officially a Fairtrade Borough, after a resolution was made in 2005 to actively promote Fairtrade to consumers, businesses and community groups in the area.

Fairtrade Fortnight 25 February to 9 March

Events around the Borough over the 2013 Fairtrade Fortnight:

Eastleigh Borough Council are holding a Lunch and Learn for staff and councillors - led by Sue from Shop Equality

The Eastleigh Borough Fairtrade Campaign are running a market stall on 2 consecutive Saturdays on 2 March and 9 March - come and find us in the market in Leigh Road and say hello.

The Eastleigh Borough Fairtrade Campaign are also setting up displays at Sainsburys, Hedge End and at the Borough Council Offices in Civic Centre throughout the fortnight.

Saturday 24 November Eastleigh Town Centre Christmas Lights

Come and find us at our Fairtrade Stall in Eastleigh Town Centre on Saturday 24 November.  Shop Equality will also have a stall selling and displaying Fairtrade Goods.  There are events all day including childrens' rides, Santa's Grotto, mobile farm, carol singing and then at 5pm there is a parade led by Father Christmas and switching on the lights at 6pm.  We will be setting up the stall from 10am and if we have enough volunteers then we will man the stall through to 4pm.  If you are able to help please call Daphne  02380 688022

Fairtrade Event with Shop Equality & AGM Wed 4 July 2012

On 4 July we held a Fairtrade event and looked back over the last 12 months of Fairtrade activity in Eastleigh Borough ( The Chair's report as presented at the AGM to follow shortly).  We also had an inspiring presentation from Sue Hunt who runs the new Shop Equality shop in Eastleigh centre- please do go and visit and say hello to Sue.  You will be hugely impressed by so many Fairtrade goods on offer, and hopefully encouraged by all the good work.  For directions and further details see the Shop Equality link in the list of Fairtrade Retailers in our Fairtrade Directory -  see the left Han

Our next Committee Meeting is Thursday 13 Sep 19:30 at Daphne's House 157 Stoke Heights, Fair Oak SO50 8AH, when we will be putting together our application for Fairtrade Status for Eastleigh Borough

Fairtrade fortnight

During Fairtrade fortnight 2012 (27th Feb to 11th March 2012) Wildern School, and friends, manned a fairtrade stall in Sainsburys, Hedge End. We enjoyed sharing with the community how, buying Fairtrade goods really benefits the farmers and producers in developing countries. Building the long-term solution to poverty in our World.
